WSL v Sydney Olympic 22-03-2015

The SDSFA Women's State League season got underway with our first trial matches of the season at Knight Park against Sydney Olympic.

Sydney Olympic play in the second tier of the FNSW women's competitions, a tier above us, so this was likely to be a challenge for our five teams.

Our Under 13's put in a gutsy effort. The Olympic girls proved too strong in the end but our youngsters showed promise with some shots on goal and good play. On paper the final score may have looked very dominant but the Southern Districts girls could take plenty of positives from their effort. There could be good things ahead.

The Under 15's surprised by coming up with a narrow win over their highly rated opponents. The girls played very well in patches in a performance that will give them considerable confidence heading into the season proper. Ebony Pritchard had the honour of scoring the first goal of the season for the SDSFA girls programme.

The Under 17's, at this stage, were still a work in progress. The team was still short on numbers and some of the Under 15's backed up to assist. There was no lack of effort; the girls battled away in difficult circumstances but a seasoned Olympic team were too good. A tough start for the 17's but things will get better.

Our senior teams on the day also battled for playing numbers as the group continues to build. Both teams did their best but the Olympic senior teams have been very strong in recent seasons. That pedigree told as the matches went on but our girls tried hard. Our seniors will improve as we add to the squad and they develop as a team. Ory was still smiling at the end of the day!

Not an easy opening day for our teams but there were positive signs for what lies ahead.

Keep working hard girls!
